One of the things I love most about being a Burbank estate attorney is that no two days are ever exactly the same. Every family I talk to has a different story, every client has different goals, and  every estate plan reflects a unique life.

But lately, I’ve noticed a trend that keeps coming up in conversations with clients throughout Burbank, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs. People are realizing they waited longer than they should have to create an estate plan. And honestly? I understand why. Life is busy. Between work, kids, aging parents, mortgages, travel, retirement planning, and everything else that demands our attention, estate planning doesn’t feel urgent. Most people know they should have a trust, a will, or an Advance Healthcare Directive, but it’s easy to convince yourself that you’ll get around to it later.

Over the last few months, I’ve met with several clients who were prompted to finally call an estate planning attorney in Burbank because of something that happened to a friend, a coworker, a sibling, or a parent, that made them think about their own mortality.

As an experienced estate attorney, I spend far more time helping clients plan for incapacity than people might realize. What happens if you’re temporarily unable to make decisions? Who can access your accounts? Who can communicate with doctors? Who can manage your affairs if something unexpected happens? Those questions affect people of every age.

I’ve also noticed that younger families are becoming much more proactive. Many of my clients in their 30s and 40s are no longer viewing estate planning as something reserved for retirement. They understand that owning a home, having children, or building a business creates responsibilities that deserve legal protection.

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear as a Los Angeles estate lawyer is, “I’m not wealthy enough to need an estate plan.” I answer that question by saying that estate planning isn’t about how much money you have; it’s about making decisions while you still can.

The families who benefit most from estate planning are the ones who recognize that uncertainty can be expensive, both financially and emotionally.

As the founder of Best Coast Estate Law, I feel incredibly grateful to help clients navigate these conversations every day. While the legal documents matter, what matters even more is the peace of mind that comes from knowing your family has a plan.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned lately, it’s that people never regret getting their estate plan done.

The only thing they regret is waiting longer than they needed to.
